Blend Creative Interview

Eloise and Marianna are decorators, graphic designers and lettering artists. They are the founders of Blend creative studio in Rome. They have combined their artistic studies with a passion for Lettering and their work ranges from graphics advertising, publishing and interior design. They are known for their brightly coloured murals, with unique letters and shapes and for the inevitable coffee breaks.

Tell us a fun fact about you When we go out to eat before ordering the dishes, we always gossip about the fonts of the menus and the interior design of the room and the waiters we hate because they have to pass several times to make us order.

How did you get into illustration? We love to draw as a child. Over the years we have attended different artistic studies and then we met in a Graphics Academy. Here we started our creative project on letters.

Who or what inspires you the most? We are lucky to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Exhibitions, events, cultural spaces and all the art of Rome are a constant inspiration for us.

What does a typical day look like for you? A rich breakfast with a good coffee, a chat with friends and a visit to the To Do List. Mail, calls, Instagram, running in the metropolis, sketches for various clients. So our days are always really full.

What do you do when you have a creative block? The best thing to do is to break away from the blank paper, take a long walk, or watch a movie. Then you come back with more energy and new ideas.

Top three clients you've worked with? A local street food, a bakery and a brewery.

What tools (digital or not!) do you use to create your work? The most precious tool is definitely pencil and paper. Then we digitise our illusrations to the PC. But we also use a lot of brushes and paints with which we have a lot of fun.

What's your favourite resource for inspiration? We keep up-to-date on international lettering artists. We also take inspiration from the books on typography and lettering, posters, signs and many letters that we discover during our travels and in our city.

Do you have any tips for artists thinking of doing freelance? Choose a good travel and business friend. Never give up, work a lot and have even more fun.

What would your dream project be? Paint the walls of all the cities of the world with our big letters.
