Poppy Chancellor is a London-based papercut artist intent on breathing new life into a traditional craft. Her brand ‘Poppy’s Papercuts’ aims ‘To amaze and amuse’ with intricate cut-outs sliced from a single sheet of paper. Poppy layers colours under her bold black outlines bringing images of her contemporary world to life. Whether she’s encouraging people to laugh at themselves, enjoy their bodies or make their voices heard, her artworks are a call to action. She has worked with brands such as Adidas, YouTube and Valentino.

Tell us a fun fact about you I grew up with a pet duck, Daphne.

How did you get into illustration? I was a naughty kid and used to draw all over the walls of my bedroom.

Who or what inspires you the most? Eric Cantona. His confidence is unrivalled and he's sexy as hell.

What does a typical day look like for you? Get up late, work late.

What do you do when you have a creative block? Take a walk.

Top three clients you've worked with? YouTube, Nike and Charlotte Olympia.

What tools (digital or not!) do you use to create your work? Scalpel, cutting mat, paper.

What's your favourite resource for inspiration? The British Museum.

Do you have any tips for artists thinking of doing freelance? Find your niche and dominate it.

What would your dream project be? Giant metal gates with cut outs cast in gold.
