Sara Maese Interview


Sara Maese is a Spanish illustrator and surface pattern designer. She studied a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and has two master's degrees (Graphic Design and Web Design). Her illustration style is recognisable: colourful, organic, cheerful and fresh, she loves to draw nude and sassy girls.

Tell us a fun fact about you Even though my work is very colourful, I don’t usually wear super bright clothes.

How did you get into illustration? I studied graphic design and I noticed that most of my work was good because of the help of illustration. I've always loved to draw.


Who or what inspires you the most? Daily life.

What does a typical day look like for you? Work, exercise (running or yoga) and spending some of my free time in the bed with my cats.

What do you do when you have a creative block? I try to work.


Top three clients you've worked with? Charuca, Joid'Art and The Debrief.

What tools (digital or not!) do you use to create your work? Adobe Illustrator.

What's your favourite resource for inspiration? Instagram and Pinterest.

Do you have any tips for artists thinking of doing freelance? To have more than one job (besides illustration) to help at the beginning.

What would your dream project be? Make-up packaging.
