Ashley Le Quere Interview

Ashley Le Quere is a Bristol based Pattern Designer, Illustrator and Letterer. Ashley loves to create illustrations and patterns by hand, using her favourite paint brush or dip pen and ink. She will always reach for her pencil or paintbrush rather than my computer.

Tell us a fun fact about you I have four tattoos? Is that fun... i dunno... haha!

How did you get into illustration? I studied illustration at university.

Who or what inspires you the most? I think just exploring, also clearing my head of anything else really helps me to get new ideas!

What does a typical day look like for you? I have a in house job that I go to every day. But in the evenings and weekends is when I get to play around with new ideas and projects.

What do you do when you have a creative block? I find it quite stressful, I guess like most people but I find getting outside, exploring the country side or finding a new place really helps the creativity come back.

Top three clients you've worked with? I loved working with Amnesty International on their 2017 inspiration note book! I also just worked with Bloody Good Period on a charity print, a charity that is trying to end period poverty in the UK, which I felt really passionate about.

What tools (digital or not!) do you use to create your work? I always work by hand first, sketching up ideas, them take them into illustrator. My pen of choice for letting is a Pentel brush pen!

What's your favourite resource for inspiration? I always love a good Pinterest binge but still love heading outside, exploring, seeing exhibitions.

Do you have any tips for artists thinking of doing freelance? Personally I found freelance hard but if I had one tip it would be, value your time and charge for it!

What would your dream project be? My dream project would be... hmm... thats a tough one but it would be to collaborate on a lettering/typography project with a beautiful interiors company.

How can fans keep up-to-date with your work? Instagram
